Been a while, update on everything!!

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Everyday Life, Health, Quitting Smoking, Weight Loss

Wow, it’s been a while since I posted.  Well a lot has happened in the last month and a half.  First of all, I was laid off from my job on May 15th after working for the company for 4.5 years.  It was tough at first, I was mad and sad all at the same time.  Even though I was looking for a job for the last month or so before getting laid off.  But for some reason it still hit me a bit hard.  I was then forced to find a new job.  When I was looking before that, there was something stopping me from finding one.  I think it was because I felt as though I would leave the company hanging so to speak if I left.  It all worked out great though, I told myself that I would find a job by the end of May and low and behold I had an interview on May 28th and was offered the job on May 29th, started June 1st.  I really enjoy my new job. There are plenty of new opportunities and learning with this new company.

On to another note.  June 2nd was my 6 month marker for quitting smoking!!!!!! YAY ME :).  I am very proud of myself.  There is no going back now.  I hit a pretty stressful moment in my life with losing the job and I did not resort to smoking to ease that stress.

The weight thing has come to a halt for a short time, but I will be getting back to Aqua Fit within the month. I will start walking more often as well.  With my new job I have stopped going out for lunch.  My lunch break is an hour so I will start walking on my lunch break. I will try to make it a 1/2 hour walk each day when I can.

I will try an post at least twice a week from now on, but no promises.

Update on Diabetes

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Health

Hi everyone.  It’s been a while since my last post.  I have been going to the doctors every week or so and trying to figure everything out.  Since the original diagnosis of diabetes a few weeks back we have also discovered that I am Insulin Resistant.  Which means, unlike most diabetics my Pancreas creates Insulin, in fact it is creating almost double what it should be, but my body has become resistant to the Insulin.  For some reason I am not sensitive to it at all.

I have been referred to the diabetes clinic where I live and I had my first 3 hour session yesterday.  I learnt more in that 3 hours than I have in the numerous visits with my doctor.  Apparently my doctor does know all that much about diabetes.  I have 2 more 3 hour sessions with them.  Next week will be with the dietitian.  I am looking forward to that as I learnt yesterday that I could be Insulin resistant because of my weight.  I am almost sure that is the problem because they said that it has to do with one of 3 things, High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and being over weight.  I only have one of those problems, being over weight.  So my goal now is to lose weight and get my diabetes under control to the point where I do not have to take medication.

I orginally said that I was going to get rid of the diabetes all together, but was informed yesterday that this is not possible.  Once you have diabetes you always have diabetes.  However, you can learn how to control your sugar levels with food rather than medication.  So that is my goal.

I hope to be posting more often.  I will have to post again about how my aqua fit is going once I am back at it.  I have been walking lately instead of the aqua fit.  But I miss it so I will definitely be going again soon!!!

Diabetes Confirmed!

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Health

Well, as some of you no I was getting tested for diabetes in the last week or so.  Today it has been confirmed that I do have type 2 diabetes.  I have to go in for some more tests tomorrow.  I guess they need to check my creatinine levels and my hemoglobin levels.  These are just 2 of the many tests for tomorrow.  I have been prescribed Metformin which is the most common pill for diabetics.  I will have to take this for a month and monitor my sugar levels 4 times a day and write them down.  After 2 weeks the doctor wants me to go in for a check up to see if the dose of Metformin is balancing my sugar levels.  If not he will have to adjust the dose.  I mentioned to him that my mom who is also diabetic took Metformin and had a reaction to it so he told me to let him no as soon as I feel any discomforts or reactions once I have started taking it and I can change it to Actos.

I just wanted to update everyone.  I will update again as to how my life is changing due to the diabetes.  I am not saying that my life will change drastically.  I have to go to a Diabetic clinic now and will see a nutritionist.  So now I have no excuse but to eat healthy and keep my aqua fit going.

Check up - Diabetes!!!

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Health

Well I had my routine check up at the doctors last week.  I thought it would be a good time to have a complete physical.  So my doctor and I went through all my family history and so on.  He sent me for a bunch of tests the next day.  I hate needles so I thought better get it all done at once.  It was not too bad, they only had to take 2 viles of blood from me.  On Monday the receptionist called me and told me that my blood results were back and that the doctor wanted to see me. Of course this worried the heck out of me.  I was at work when they called so when I called them back they said that it was not super urgent but the doctor wanted to see me.  They made an appointment with me for yesterday. So I went in yesterday morning and the doctor told me that my fasting blood sugar came back higher than it should have so now he thinks that I might have diabetes.

Diabetes runs in my moms side of the family, all of her aunts and uncles had it and she has it.  So now I have to wait for 10 days and go in for what they call a glucose test.  I guess it means that I have to go in after fasting for 12 hours then let them take my blood and see what the sugar levels are then they give me 75 ml of glucose.  After 2 hours of having the glucose in my system they will check my blood again. If the blood sugar levels are high the doctor said I more than likely am right on the line of having diabetes or I do have them.

So today I have started cutting all the sugar out of my diet that I possibly can.  I do not want to have diabetes.  My mom has had it for about 15 years and she now is having kidney failure and is on dyalisis which is due to having diabetes.  I also really hate needles I can’t imagine having to give myself a needle with insulin or poking my finger multiple times in a day.  As I said the test is in 10 days so I will let you all know what comes of it. I really pray that I don’t have it!!!
