Update on Diabetes

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Health

Hi everyone.  It’s been a while since my last post.  I have been going to the doctors every week or so and trying to figure everything out.  Since the original diagnosis of diabetes a few weeks back we have also discovered that I am Insulin Resistant.  Which means, unlike most diabetics my Pancreas creates Insulin, in fact it is creating almost double what it should be, but my body has become resistant to the Insulin.  For some reason I am not sensitive to it at all.

I have been referred to the diabetes clinic where I live and I had my first 3 hour session yesterday.  I learnt more in that 3 hours than I have in the numerous visits with my doctor.  Apparently my doctor does know all that much about diabetes.  I have 2 more 3 hour sessions with them.  Next week will be with the dietitian.  I am looking forward to that as I learnt yesterday that I could be Insulin resistant because of my weight.  I am almost sure that is the problem because they said that it has to do with one of 3 things, High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and being over weight.  I only have one of those problems, being over weight.  So my goal now is to lose weight and get my diabetes under control to the point where I do not have to take medication.

I orginally said that I was going to get rid of the diabetes all together, but was informed yesterday that this is not possible.  Once you have diabetes you always have diabetes.  However, you can learn how to control your sugar levels with food rather than medication.  So that is my goal.

I hope to be posting more often.  I will have to post again about how my aqua fit is going once I am back at it.  I have been walking lately instead of the aqua fit.  But I miss it so I will definitely be going again soon!!!

My daughter is diabetic so I have been dealing with (and learning about) diabetes since she was in third grade (she’s 24 now). My understanding is that if you are Type 1 you cannot “get rid” of it. If you are Type 2, you can control it (that is, get rid of it) with a good diet and exercise. As you developed it as an adult, you are probably Type 2, so you might be able to at least look forward to getting off insulin.

There is controversy about whether or not you can reverse diabetes. Most doctors, and just about all endocrinologists (the ones who make their money on diabetics!) will tell you that it is not.

Dr. Joel Fuhrman, MD, has reversed diabetes in thousands of patients. I have seen excellent results following his plan myself. You can go to his website for more information:

I wish you success in controlling your sugar levels with food. My dad had diabetes for a very long time before it actually bothered him so he just kept eating anything he wanted and didn’t pay any attention to it until it got worse. Then when he was in his 80s, it got quite bad. Maybe if he had changed his eating habits sooner, it may have made a difference for him later, who knows? I hope I don’t get it.

Thanks for the comment karen. I have been told that it is hereditary and I have been told that it’s my own fault because of the way I eat and being over weight. So my suggestion is, if you’re not already doing so, just eat healthy and get lots of excersise. I am doing that now, well trying to anyways. I watch how much sugar I take in daily and so far I have been able to keep my sugar levels between 5 and 7. I just have to do the more excersise thing.
