Check up - Diabetes!!!

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Health

Well I had my routine check up at the doctors last week.  I thought it would be a good time to have a complete physical.  So my doctor and I went through all my family history and so on.  He sent me for a bunch of tests the next day.  I hate needles so I thought better get it all done at once.  It was not too bad, they only had to take 2 viles of blood from me.  On Monday the receptionist called me and told me that my blood results were back and that the doctor wanted to see me. Of course this worried the heck out of me.  I was at work when they called so when I called them back they said that it was not super urgent but the doctor wanted to see me.  They made an appointment with me for yesterday. So I went in yesterday morning and the doctor told me that my fasting blood sugar came back higher than it should have so now he thinks that I might have diabetes.

Diabetes runs in my moms side of the family, all of her aunts and uncles had it and she has it.  So now I have to wait for 10 days and go in for what they call a glucose test.  I guess it means that I have to go in after fasting for 12 hours then let them take my blood and see what the sugar levels are then they give me 75 ml of glucose.  After 2 hours of having the glucose in my system they will check my blood again. If the blood sugar levels are high the doctor said I more than likely am right on the line of having diabetes or I do have them.

So today I have started cutting all the sugar out of my diet that I possibly can.  I do not want to have diabetes.  My mom has had it for about 15 years and she now is having kidney failure and is on dyalisis which is due to having diabetes.  I also really hate needles I can’t imagine having to give myself a needle with insulin or poking my finger multiple times in a day.  As I said the test is in 10 days so I will let you all know what comes of it. I really pray that I don’t have it!!!

I hope you don’t have diabetes, but when you have you’ll get proper care and advice.

Don’t cut out all the sugars from your diet, because that doesn’t do the trick.

Go to the site of the american diabetes organisation and read the info there.

There are plenty of recipes online. Joining a yahoogroup for people with diabetes helps too.

I have diabetes for 15 years too and I have nothing at all that’s due to the diabetes.
    So don’t be afraid.
    Get informed and eat healthy.

    Good luck.

I hope that you don’t have diabetes…it sounds like you are talking about type 2, which can be managed and even cured!!! My son has type 1 and is doing very well. I wish you all the best and good health!

Thanks Laane. I will definitely have a look at the info you provided. I am trying not to be afraid but my mother has it and she lives with me and I have seen everything that she has gone through. I no it does not happen to everyone with diabetes, but you still wonder. Thank you again for the info :)

Thank you amy lilley. Yeah I have heard about it possibly being cured if taken care of properly. I hope everything is good with your son. :)

Hello…try not to cross any bridges until you get to them. I know that sounds so easy and it is not.
What will be will be and all the worry will not stop what is coming tomorrow.
The upside is there is so much out there these days that really does make a difference when you are battling things like Diabetes.
It is not like 20 or even 10 years ago.

Chin up and just do the best you can with what you have:)

    Good luck!

Thank you very much Dorothy. I appreciate the nice comment. I’ve been thinking positive thoughts and hoping that I don’t have it. But like you said, there are alot of resources out there now. I will hopefully have an update by the middle of next week. Thanks again to all for the support :)
