Check up - Diabetes!!!

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Health

Well I had my routine check up at the doctors last week.  I thought it would be a good time to have a complete physical.  So my doctor and I went through all my family history and so on.  He sent me for a bunch of tests the next day.  I hate needles so I thought better get it all done at once.  It was not too bad, they only had to take 2 viles of blood from me.  On Monday the receptionist called me and told me that my blood results were back and that the doctor wanted to see me. Of course this worried the heck out of me.  I was at work when they called so when I called them back they said that it was not super urgent but the doctor wanted to see me.  They made an appointment with me for yesterday. So I went in yesterday morning and the doctor told me that my fasting blood sugar came back higher than it should have so now he thinks that I might have diabetes.

Diabetes runs in my moms side of the family, all of her aunts and uncles had it and she has it.  So now I have to wait for 10 days and go in for what they call a glucose test.  I guess it means that I have to go in after fasting for 12 hours then let them take my blood and see what the sugar levels are then they give me 75 ml of glucose.  After 2 hours of having the glucose in my system they will check my blood again. If the blood sugar levels are high the doctor said I more than likely am right on the line of having diabetes or I do have them.

So today I have started cutting all the sugar out of my diet that I possibly can.  I do not want to have diabetes.  My mom has had it for about 15 years and she now is having kidney failure and is on dyalisis which is due to having diabetes.  I also really hate needles I can’t imagine having to give myself a needle with insulin or poking my finger multiple times in a day.  As I said the test is in 10 days so I will let you all know what comes of it. I really pray that I don’t have it!!!

Back at it

Well last week I was unable to attend my aquafit classes for the whole week as I was sick. I was really disappointed in not being able to go as I really enjoy the classes. I am almost back to normal this week and will be going back to class tomorrow night. As I mentioned before I tried out the deep water class a few weeks ago. I will be doing this class again on Wednesday. So from now on Wednesdays I will be doing a double class. Each class will be 45 minutes starting off with the regular aqua fit class and ending with the deep water class. Below is a link to a video of what the deep water class is like. We do not use the hand and feet things just the belt that she has on her waist.

WaterART Deep H20 Training

Those classes are a lot tougher than the regular aquafit classes but I enjoy them as well.  As you can see you do not need to know how to swim as you are using a floater belt that will keep you from sinking as long as you keep moving.  I myself am not a very good swimmer and I don’t have any problems with this class.

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Quitting Smoking

photo07Well today I have officially been smoke free for 3 months. Yay me. I am very proud of myself. There were a few people that doubted me and said that they didn’t think that I could do. Well guess what? I DID IT :) It was pretty hard at the beginning. I still kinda think about it at times. I don’t react on the thought but it sometimes goes through my head. But I just put it aside and think of something else. I have some people in my life to thank for the awesome support they gave me. You no who you are and thanks!!! Anyways, I will report back to you at the 6th month marker. It will just be a post saying that I have completed 6 months :)
