Aqua Fit

Posted by: Tracey  /  Category: Weight Loss

As you all know I have been going to Aqua Fit classes.  Lastnight I went to 2 classes. The first one was the regular class and the second one right after that was the deep water class.  Wow, what a difference in classes.  The normal aqua fit class is a little bit easier than the deep water.  In the regular one you are able to touch the ground when running in the water in the deep water run you can’t touch the ground at all so you are constantly moving your body.  You are actually moving your entire body not just your legs or arms.  It’s like ridding an exercise bike in the water. Today I feel a bit soar on the inner part of my thighs and my arms.  This feels good though.  At least if I am soar I no that I have actually worked my body out.  I am glad that I decided to finally try this out because I really enjoy it.  I know that this is something that I will stick to.  It’s much better than going to the gym.  Tonight will be my last class for the week. The only down side to this is that my skin is getting dry and itchy from the chlorine.  One of the really good things about it is that you burn between 900 to 1100 calories each class :)

    Hey Tracey,

I have a friend who is elderly and he tells me all the time what a good workout he gets with his aqua exercise class at the YMCA. I know from experience that swimming itself using so many muscles that we don’t use on a regular basis. I hope you will be able to stick with this wonderful technique like my friend. I am not a water person so I have to exercise the old fashion way, with weights and walking. Keep up the good work and the good posts.

Thanks Eddie. Yeah I find that it is a real workout and I don’t have sore achy joints after. Everytime I go to the gym I always end up with sore knees. Also I have a cracked tailbone so when I use the bike at the gym I can hardly stand up after 20 minutes. So for the bike thing I tried out the deep water class and that is basically what you do, ride a bike in the water. Thanks for the great comments. I will make sure and let you all know how the aqua fit is going :)

swimming is supposed to be the best total body exercise. it works all of your muscles. is knowing how to swim a requirement of this class. i don’t know how to swim, another thing i regret. 900 calories in one class? that’s excellent.

Hi Natural. No you do not have to know how to swim. The deepest the instructor makes you go into the water is up to your armpits. I am not a very good swimmer at all and I have not been afraid at all when doing the class. I have even done the deep water one where you have to wear a float belt and you are not touching the ground at all. I would say even though you do not know how to swim, give the aqua fit a try you will not be disappointed or afraid :)

so does the deep water class need you to be treading in the water? this sure looks like a very good exercise that I’d enjoy doing. hmmm.. maybe I should look up something like this here in MD for the summer…

Yeah it does require you to tread water, but you are wearing what they call a floater belt or using a water noodle. The more advanced people in the class use nothing. But even when using the water noodle or the floater belt you still have to be constantly moving otherwise you start to sink. Yeah you should look it up it is very fun.
